Page Load Time tester
I've got a site that seems to load the home page quite slowly. I looked at different tools to measure page load speed and there are lots includeing browser addons and standalone programs, however I wanted to use a web based system. This website: http://www.linkvendor.com/seo-tools/speedtester.html seems to be pretty useful. You just put the url of the page in the box, and then enter the captcha image (if you are logged in to the site, you dont need to enter the captcha verification) - then the page loads up your url and displays the size of all the images, scripts and html into a handy table. The results I got were as follows:

According to the data above, there is less than 100k of images on the home page and 27k of javascript files. In addition, the html for the page itself is only 7k (I put 'enableviewstate=false' in most of the page controls to reduce the size of the viewstate hidden field.
Therefore, the slowness of the page loading is not to do with the download times, but is more likely to be related to server processing or bandwidth. Further investigation will be required...
