Windows 7 and Xbox sales banned in Germany over h264 video patents
Motorola have won an injunction against Microsoft selling Xbox 360 consoles and Windows 7 OS in Germany. The case centres on an alleged patent infringement over the way h.264 video is coded and playback. A similar case in the United States will be heard next week. The patents in question have recenly been purchased by Google as part of it's aquisition of Motorola, and the potential damages could be an instant return on the investment.
Microsoft are probably now regretting their decision to use h.264 video over the open source webM codec.
