Google Page Preview

Google has started testing a page preview facility in the search results. this shows a preview of the page in question when you hover your mouse over the search result. The same feature has been available in other search engines for quite a few years now, including Ask.com. Bing.com does something similar, but shows relevent text and links in the mouseover, so for example, if you search for a name and their facebook page appears in the SERPs, the search hover shows links for 'add as a friend', 'send a message' and 'view friends'.

This latest development is another layer of complexity on the SERPs which I don't think will be welcomed by everyone. Personally, I liked the simplicity of google when it was just text results with no search suggestions popping up when you type, no video, shopping and image results mixed in with the main search (if I were looking for images , I'd use image search), no categories in the left hand side, no search filters, no top navigation (surely if you have the google toolbar installed these top links are redundant) and no instant search. I can live with the adwords, thats fine, and sufficient to act as relevent links.

Give me the fast and simple search engine that google used to be. Don't follow the others into a cycle of ever increasing complexity and 'features'. It would be nice if there was a simplified version of google that you could use out of the box without fiddling with settings.
