Google Boutiques - online fashion by the big G
Seems like everyone and his dog thinks that they can put up a fashion website and make money thesedays. Most of the time, they end up costing more money than they generate. Anywaym, google have now created their own fashion clothing service called Google Boutique. They have created a fashion website called http://www.boutiques.com/ which is supposedly been designed by a team of PhD computer experts, fashion designers and stylists.
At the present time, they are only listing womens fashion clothing, and only available in the US. They are not yet listing designer menswear or any other type of designer clothing.
When you go to the site, you can define your own style by comparing images of differing styles until the system works out what fashion type you are. I went through the 20 images and I came out as:
Edgy
Part risk-taker, part carefree spirit, you effortlessly pull together adventurous ensembles. No look is complete without extreme accessories and maybe a touch of metallic. Structural silhouettes and distressed trimmings rule your wardrobe. A little rock & roll with a dash of indie spirit, if you're not pushing fashion boundaries, you're bored. No matter the occasion, you maintain your Edgy signature style.
Hmmm not too sure about that one.Other possible styles include Boho, Street, Classic, Romantic, and Casual
The next step, you can define which dresses you love or hate (you choose the style colour and pattern) then tops, shoes etc. Once you have gone through the process of defining which styles you like or dislike, then you can save these choices, and you are presented with a storefront that displays fashion which is tailored to your taste. You can click on any of the items on your store to go through to buying the product itself.
Its a very interesting prospect and at first I was skeptical, but the system really does work well as an affiliate scheme to entice you to buy from their partners. It will be interesting to see what happens if the service is rolled out to the rest of the world, and if they include menswear in the catalogue.
