New contact form spam

Just received an interesting variation of contact form spam, the message sent through the contact form was as follows:

Name:

Martin Birch

Telephone:

008618637720073

Email:

martin.birch6215@yahoo.co.uk

Enquiry:

You sent me a reply to my webpage www.eltc-cn.com WHY?

IP Address:

115.59.66.54

Now if it wasn't for the fact that the domain name ends in -cn I would have visited the page just out of curiosity. It's quite a clever and simple spam mail that I would expect many people will be tricked into visiting the site.

My suspicion is that the person sending out these spam mails is getting paid for doing SEO for the website. The person who owns the chinese language learning website probably does not know that their SEO guy (or more likely cheap SEO company) is inflating their traffic figures by sending random link baits out which will do absolutely nothing to increase their business. Quite the reverse, it will negatively affect their reputation and cost them money for no returns.

Perhaps we are seeing the start of a trend for more clever spam SEO tactics.
