Google under investigation by EU for demoting sites
It has been revealed in the Daily Telegraph this week that Google may soon be subject to an inquiry by the European Union over allegations that it has unfairly demoted some businesses in its SERPS.
According to the article, three companies, Ciao, foundem and ejustitice.fr have submitted claims that their sites are unfairly demoted in the Google SERPS because they are competators to some google services.
Google have responded by saying that if there is an inquiry, then they will cooperate fully, and that they are confident that they have not breached competition laws, and that the search algorithm is not subject to favouratism.
I think it unlikely that an inquiry will be called, and more likely, the companies in question might try to take out legal action in the european courts. Their chances of winning though would be exceptionally slim.
