Google Mobile News - January 31st 2011

It has been reported that Google has been actively recruiting in-house android app development teams in a concerted effort to increase the number and quality of Android apps. This move has been widely expected, and is the next phase of the strategy to take on the iPhone/iPad for market dominance.

Meanwhile, Android based tablets (mainly the Samsung Galaxy Pad) have been making significant inroads into the market, increasing the market share by 10 times in the last quarter. The market share has gone up from 2.3% to 22% in the last 3 months. The iPad has gone from 96% market share to 75%.

It's not all good news for Google though, there are reports that at a vulnerability in the android 2.2 OS which was promised would be fixed, is still present in the Nexus S running version 2.3. Hopefully, this flaw will be fixed in the soon to be released version 3 (Honeycomb) which is likely to come out around the same time as the iPad 2 which is due to start production in Feb 2011.
