Blackberry losing ground

In the utra competative mobile market, RIM, the company behind Blackberry has seen a tumble in shares following the announcement that it missed it's quarterly targets. Delays to the next generation of Blackberry devices, which has a steep mountain to climb if it is to compete with Android and iPhones, have caused concern in the market.

Is this the beginning of the end for Blackberry? Originally focussed on Business applications, the platform has seen its market share eaten up by its rivals, and the tablet format Blackberry, the Playbook, doesn't look like its going to be much competition against the iPad 3 (due later this year) or even the Samsung Galaxy Tab II. Therefore, if RIM want to stay ahead of the compeition, it's going to have to start thinking more creatively about new products and offer something new and unique. At the minute, that doesn't look very likely.
